Introduction:
Oscar is a quality 16.1hh Stockhorse x Thoroughbred gelding with a genuine all-round education and a wonderfully varied background. He has done mustering, team penning, eventing, showjumping, trail riding and also makes a lovely hack/dressage type.
With his practical experience, kind outlook and established basics, Oscar would appeal to a rider wanting a capable, honest horse for a broad and enjoyable program. He is a useful, versatile gelding who offers plenty for someone wanting one horse to do a bit of everything.
Education, skills and experience:
Oscar has established flatwork, willingly collects and is tolerant of rider mistakes. He has competed with champion awards, wins and placings at shows and is a lovely hack/dressage ride. He has showjumping experience, although prefers to keep the height around the 90cm mark. He has also schooled low-level cross country, ridden bareback and lunged.
Oscar is experienced on trails and in farm work, including mustering and some team penning. He is safe for novices under instruction and has been comfortable in busy environments, including agricultural shows with fireworks. He has also been ridden around machinery, livestock and dogs, and has swum in dams and rivers.
General demeanour under saddle:
Under saddle, Oscar is willing and responsive. He adapts to the rider’s competence and is generally very calm and reliable. When fresh he can be a little looky and cheeky but he does not buck, pigroot, rear or bolt. Oscar steps up for a more experienced rider while remaining forgiving of mistakes, making him an appealing option for someone wanting a sensible horse with enough education and versatility to enjoy a range of activities.
Current workload / fitness:
Oscar is currently in light work and ridden one to two times per week.
Handling:
On the ground, Oscar is straightforward and easy to manage. He is easy to catch, leads politely, self-loads and travels well, stands quietly on the float or truck and unloads calmly.
Feeding and management:
Oscar lives on grass and will have lucerne hay daily if needed. He is barefoot and doesn't require shoeing. He is paddocked happily in a herd and on his own with another horse over the fence. He does not have any specific tack requirements.
Medical history:
Oscar has a small scar on a hind leg that doesn't affect him in any way. Pre-purchase vetting is welcome at the buyer’s expense.
Rider Suitability:
Oscar is best suited to a confident teen or intermediate rider wanting a quality, versatile all-rounder for hacking, dressage, clinics, trail riding and farm riding. He may also suit someone wanting to enjoy low-level eventing or showjumping, provided they are happy to keep the jumping around the 90cm mark.
For the right rider, Oscar offers a very appealing mix of education, manners, versatility and genuine usefulness.
Reason for sale:
Oscar is excess to needs, as he unfortunately does not have the scope to showjump higher than around 90cm.
