Horses have always been part of our family.
My grandfather owned racehorses. Mum and Dad rode, although not competitively, and my sister and I were completely horse-obsessed from the moment we were allowed on their backs.
Scott also grew up around working horses. His family used Stock Horses to manage cattle across the steep country they owned near Tamworth and Bylong.
Our daughters began riding as soon as they could wear a helmet and hold their heads up straight.
Between us, our family has evented, showjumped to 130, competed in dressage and national level showing, campdrafted and used horses for mustering. We have never played polocrosse competitively, but we are always happy to bring out a racquet and ball for some fun with the ponies.
We understand horses from several perspectives: competition, family riding, farm work, confidence, education and the practical realities of keeping them sound, happy and manageable.
Before Performance Horse Sales, I completed three and a half years of a law degree and spent 20 years teaching, including three years working in a specialist support class.
Both backgrounds have proved unexpectedly useful.
Studying law developed my understanding of evidence, disclosure, process, documentation and the importance of asking precise questions.
Teaching gave me a strong insight into how people learn, how emotional regulation affects behaviour, and why patience, communication and problem-solving matter so much when horses and riders are involved.
Both fields also taught me that it is not enough to respond quickly. You need to respond well.
The right process, the right questions and the right communication can completely change an outcome.
For at least two decades, I had been buying and selling horses for our own family and helping friends do the same.
Over that time, I saw almost everything.
Fabulous sellers.
Dodgy sellers.
Well-intentioned sellers who genuinely believed what they were saying.
Buyers who overlooked important clues.
And situations where the warning signs were there, but were misunderstood, ignored, minimised or noticed too late.
Performance Horse Sales was initially suggested as a bit of a joke.
The famous line was:
“You should use your special skills to make money out of doing this.”
Apparently, those special skills included a photographic memory for horse names and details, CIA-level investigative tendencies, a sixth sense for something not quite adding up, a love of organisation and process, a slight obsession with helping people find the right horse and a love (obviously) of all things 'horse related'.
It turned out they were useful skills after all.
Performance Horse Sales was built to make buying and selling horses more structured, transparent and fair.
We are not here to judge riders for their experience, nerves, budget or goals.
We are here to understand where they are now, identify what they genuinely need and help them make informed decisions.
Our philosophy is simple:
Start where you are. We will meet you there.
That may mean helping a buyer refine their search criteria, asking a seller more detailed questions, identifying inconsistencies, recognising genuine suitability or gently pointing out when a horse is unlikely to be the right match.
We believe honest information protects everyone: the buyer, the seller and, most importantly, the horse.
No pretending.
No polished version of the truth.
Just real horses, real riders, careful processes and the best possible chance of finding the right match.
Our Philosophy
Right home for the horse, right horse for the rider
How do we do it?
Independence - Responsiveness - Transparency

But we aren't 'agents'...
People often call us “horse agents.”
And while we understand why… that’s not actually what we do.
At Performance Horse Sales, we’re sales and buying consultants.
And the best way to describe our role? We act as a critical friend throughout the process.
In professional terms, a critical friend is someone who supports you while also offering honest, objective advice. They help you think clearly, ask better questions and challenge assumptions — all with the goal of helping you achieve the best outcome.
That’s exactly what we do.
When emotions are high, we bring clarity.
When decisions feel rushed, we slow things down.
When people miss red flags, we ask harder questions.
When clients feel overwhelmed, we provide structure.
We offer:
Expert advice — so you can make informed decisions
Strategy — so your search or sale is targeted and efficient
Communication — so everything stays clear and transparent
Structure — so the process feels smooth and far less stressful
Our job is to help buyers and sellers achieve the best possible outcome for their horse sale or purchase.
What we don’t do is act as your agent.
We do not act on your behalf.
We do not make decisions for you.
We do not handle your money.
You remain in control of your horse, your finances and your final decisions.
We simply help you navigate what can be a very emotional, expensive and complex process with far more confidence and far fewer mistakes.
Because buying or selling a horse shouldn’t feel chaotic.
It should feel informed, supported and well managed — and that’s exactly where we come in. 🐴✨
