Introduction: Walnut Avenue, known as Wally, is an 8-year-old bay Warmblood gelding standing approximately 17.1hh. Located in Westbury, Tasmania, he is EA registered and presents as a quality young performance horse with expressive movement and established foundations across dressage, showjumping and eventing.
Education, skills and experience: Wally has an established level of education and is currently training shoulder-in, leg yield and counter canter on the flat. He has competed up to 90cm showjumping, is training around 1.10m showjumping and 95cm cross country, and has completed multiple off-property cross country schooling outings. He has attended competitions and handled large atmospheres well, with results including clear rounds at 85cm and 95cm Freshman classes, as well as clear rounds at Northern Showjumping Championships and a fourth placing in a 90cm jump-off. He is also comfortable around dogs and has been exposed to low-level cross country schooling.
General demeanour under saddle: Under saddle, Wally is willing, responsive and soft in the bridle, putting in as much effort as required by his rider. He can take time and skill to develop consistent collection and contact and may occasionally be looky in certain situations. He is generally non-reactive unless something major occurs and presents as a trainable horse with a sensible brain.
Current workload / fitness: Wally is currently in work and being ridden three or more times per week while actively competing. He does not require regular riding to remain reliable and is considered safe to hop on after a spell.
Handling: Wally is easy to catch, well mannered on the ground and leads calmly. He ties up quietly, loads calmly with a patient handler and is easy to wash. He is reliable for the farrier and good for the vet. Due to his size, he requires a capable handler and has not travelled on a straight load float.
Behaviour: Wally can become nervous or tense around unfamiliar people and benefits from time to develop trust with his handlers. He also has some separation anxiety and may take time to settle into a new environment. Despite this, he is described as sensible and trainable, with no kicking, biting, bucking or rearing behaviours.
Feeding and management: Wally is currently kept in a large grass paddock and has access to hay when pasture is limited, along with hard feed morning and night when required. He must have a companion within sight and may need time to settle if his environment or routine changes.
Medical history: Wally has x-rays available which show some changes, and these findings have impacted his suitability for higher level eventing. He was last vaccinated in July 2025 for Equine Influenza, Tetanus, Strangles and Hendra, had his dental completed in July 2025 and is currently shod. Past x-rays are available and a vet check is welcome at the buyer’s expense.
Rider Suitability: Wally is best suited to a capable rider under regular professional instruction. He would suit a young rider, amateur adult or mature rider with the experience to continue producing a talented but still green horse who benefits from confidence and consistency.
Reason for sale: Wally is offered for sale as his x-rays suggest he may not be suited to a future star-level eventing career. He presents as an appealing opportunity for someone looking for a talented, trainable horse to continue producing in an appropriate discipline.
