Introduction: Diplomatic Grace, affectionately known as ‘Gracie’, is a lovely 13-year-old 15.2hh bay TB mare. She has been with her current owner for the past 18 months and during this time she has enjoyed a varied life including showjumping, eventing, pony club activities and trail riding. She is a kind, willing mare who enjoys having a job and thrives with a confident rider.
Education, Skills & Experience: Gracie is established in her basic flatwork and jumping education and has begun some lateral work, continuing to improve with consistent riding. Her canter is adjustable and becoming more uphill, her walk is relaxed on a loose rein, and while her trot can occasionally become tense it is improving.
Gracie is an honest and enjoyable jumper. She has competed around 80cm SJ and EVA60 with her current rider and training around 95cm. With her previous owner, Gracie competed 90cm showjumping, EVA80 eventing and Novice dressage.
Gracie has attended pony club camps including Pony Club State Camp at SIEC, confidently completed stockman’s challenge obstacles and happily rides through water crossings, dams and on trails.
Temperament & Rideability: Gracie is a kind mare who goes best with a rider who has independent hands and a balanced seat. She is forward and responsive and is generally sensible unless something significant occurs.
She can occasionally become horse shy when standing still in busy warm-up areas due to a previous incident but relaxes once given space. She may also become tense in the dressage arena if the rider becomes nervous, but improves greatly with a calm and confident rider who supports her through those moments.
Rider Suitability: Gracie is best suited to a capable rider who has at least five years of riding and competition experience and who can ride with a soft, consistent contact. A confident novice to intermediate rider could also enjoy her in a lower pressure home focused on pleasure riding, pony club or jumping rather than competitive dressage. She would suit a junior rider, young rider or amateur adult working under regular professional instruction.
Handling & Ground Manners: Gracie has good ground manners and is respectful to handle. She leads calmly, ties up well and lunges quietly, and is reliable for the farrier and good for the vet. She is usually easy to catch and generally loads well on the float, occasionally taking a few minutes depending on the handler. She can pull faces when the girth is done up but she is tolerant of handler mistakes and straightforward to manage day to day.
Feeding & Management: Gracie currently lives on grass only. She is given hay before riding. During winter or when pasture quality drops she benefits from additional feeding such as lucerne chaff and pellets. She is paddocked 24/7 and happiest living out, although she can be stabled overnight or at competitions. She lives well in a herd but can also live alone provided another horse is within sight.
Veterinary & Care: Gracie does not have any issues that affect her performance or rideability. Past veterinary reports and X-rays are available and a vet check can be arranged at the buyer’s expense - please see the Owner’s Response Certificate in her Portfolio. Her vaccinations for Tetanus and Strangles are up to date as of March 2026, her teeth were last done in January 2026 and she is currently shod.
Reason for Sale: This is a very difficult sale for her owner. They feel their riding confidence, particularly in dressage, does not allow Gracie to work at her most relaxed and happy, and they are also looking to move to a smaller horse.
Summary: Gracie is a kind, willing and versatile mare who enjoys a varied lifestyle including jumping, eventing, pony club and trail riding. She has proven competition experience and offers an honest, fun ride for a confident rider. The ideal home would love her as much as her current owner does. The seller would appreciate occasional updates as Gracie settles into her new home.
