That íck' feeling...
You know that ick feeling in your stomach?
The one your mum always told you to listen to?
I don’t often get that feeling when dealing with clients, because I vet clients the same way I vet horses.
I don’t reject clients because they are inexperienced. That’s what we are here to help with.
I don’t reject clients because they are a bit quirky, uneven, unsure, or because the horse is at a lower price point.
We are all different. Horses are all different. Clients are all different.
And I will always maintain that people deserve to buy horses that are honestly represented and fully disclosed, through a professional service, at every value point in the market.
So, like a lovely schoolmaster, I don’t vet clients based on perfection.
I vet them based on suitability.
And whether they have a 'kind eye'.
Last night, I encountered a potential client who gave me that ick feeling before I had even started drafting the horse’s portfolio.
Here is the thing (as I politely pointed out)...
Firstly, the results speak for themselves.
Secondly, all of our information is publicly available - our services, costs, terms and conditions are all there to read before anyone chooses to work with us.
And if you aren’t happy with how we do things, that is completely okay.
Truly.
We really, really don’t mind if you choose to work with someone else, or do the job yourself. In fact, we will tell you that and wish you well.
We do not take on clients who are not 100% convinced that our service is for them.
We don’t want unhappy clients.
We don’t want unpleasant clients.
And we certainly don’t want to inflict unhappy or unpleasant people on our other clients.
The whole point of Performance Horse Sales is to create happier, smoother, calmer, more transparent sales and purchases — for everyone involved.
Buyers. Sellers. Horses.
And yes, us too.
Because this process should not feel combative.
It should feel clear, organised, respectful and fair.
So when we say we vet clients carefully, that should be reassuring.
It means we are protecting the process.
It means we are protecting the people.
And most importantly, it means we are protecting the horses.
