Tux is an accomplished gelding who is established at EVA95 and showjumping 105. He is competitive, uncomplicated and affectionate and unfortunately, very, very sadly outgrown. Tux sale presents a rare and wonderful opportunity for someone to purchase a safe, established and scopey performance horse in a ‘galloway sized’ body!
Education and experience: Tux is the ultimate performance superstar - with consistent results, rideability and the temperament to excel with his next rider. He consistently scores high 60% at novice level dressage and is training elementary movements. On the flat, Tux is soft and light in the bridle, willingly collects and has wonderful movement. He also has the looks, conformation and presence required to be successful in this phase.
Tux loves jumping and he is honest both cross country and showjumping. He is brave, when jumped by a confident rider, and is tolerant of a miss - he says ‘hold my beer’ and ‘keeps on trucking’! Tux is currently competing successfully at 105 level SJ and EVA95 eventing with scope to go higher.
Tux has attended pony club, state level competitions, swum at the beach, trail ridden and he has been ridden bareback! He is relaxed on trail rides and very quiet at home. He loves the limelight and can be a show-off at competitions but is still super safe. Tux is not worried by by farm life, dogs or other pets or busy roads.
General demeanour and behaviour: Tux is responsive and willing performance pony. He is generally unflappable unless something major happens. Tux is tolerant of rider mistakes, kind and straightforward to ride.
Tux is 100% safe - he does not buck, pigroot, bolt or rear. He is safe and reliable. Tux can get a bit tense and hot in a small and busy warm up. He is unphased in a big busy warmup or a small quiet warm up. He can, sometimes, call out to other horses but still concentrates and gets on with his job.
Current workload/ fitness: Tux is in work 3 times a week. He does not need to be ridden regularly to be safe and his behaviour is not affected by a spell.
Handling: Tux is very well mannered on the ground. He is easy to catch, lead and handle - for farrier, picking out feet, grooming, clipping and washing. Tux loves his adventures and doesn’t hesitate when loading onto the float or truck. He stands quietly when travelling and unloads calmly. Tux is easy and calm to clip.
Feeding and management: Tux is currently on Speedibeet, Barastoc Breed N Gro, Dynavyte, Mycosorb A+ (toxin binder), and electrolytes because he is in ‘full competition’ work. When on break, he just gets hay/grass.
Medical history: Tux has a small scar from when he was a foal, it has never affected him but noted for full disclosure. He is 100% sound and without issues. Tux’s owner welcomes any vet check, xrays, scans and blood tests.
Rider Suitability: Tux has been owned by his current rider for the last three years, since she was 12 years old. He will adjust to his rider, doing as little or as much as he is asked. Tux is willing, without being forward. Tux is straightforward enough to be ridden by confident novice riders, with a knowledgeable support system.
However, Tux is a performance ‘pony’ who is well educated and responsive. He likes a rider who is an appropriate size and is balanced in the saddle.
Ideal home:
A long term home with a junior or a small adult rider who will:
enjoy him and learn with him;
keep him at home with them; and
give him a variety of work (he would become ‘arena sour’ if he only did dressage or showing).
Please note that:
Tux does not have to go to a competition home, a pleasure riding or pony club home that otherwise ticks all the boxes is very acceptable.
His price is quite negotiable to the perfect home/ rider situation. Please reach out if you think you fit the bill, regardless of budget!
Reason for sale: Tux’s rider has very sadly outgrown him and knows that he has so much to give and teach his next rider.
If you are looking for a stunning new best friend - a loving, kind and smoochy horse who is also willing, straight forward to ride - then Tux is the one for you!
