Highlights
OTT EVA80 specialist
Straightforward and rideable on the flat - scoring up to 79% in prelim
Completely sound
All laterals established including half pass, training flying changes on the flat
Introduction: Teddy is an EVA80 OTT specialist eventer. He is a standout on the flat and excels at dressage and showing. Teddy has the talent to teach a confident and experienced young rider or amateur. He is only for sale as his owner wishes to progress up the star levels and Teddy doesn’t have the natural ‘engine’ for this job.
Education, skills and experience: Teddy’s owner has brought him on, from show hack to eventer, slowly and correctly. He is currently competing and winning at EVA80 level.
Dressage
Teddy is well established in dressage with three even paces. He consistently produces calm and accurate tests. Teddy has a comprehensive dressage education, he willingly collects, is balanced, light and soft to ride. Teddy has all laterals established. In dressage, Teddy is always a stand out, consistently scoring up to 79% in open company.
Showjumping
Teddy is responsive and adjustable, competitive against the clock. He is brave and trustworthy around the course and doesn’t stop. Teddy doesn’t like to knock rails!
Cross Country
On cross country, Teddy loves jumping, and is a ‘point and shoot’ cross country horse if ridden to the right spot. He is very clever and quick with his feet, will jump nearly anything off any angle and any stride. Regular water jump schooling means that he is happy to jump into water. Teddy can always be trusted to bring his rider home safely. He can be overwhelmed in a busy warm up, with horses galloping towards him but an experienced rider would find this straightforward to manage.
General demeanor under saddle:
With a capable rider, Teddy is generally a willing and responsive gelding who is honest and aims to please. He is straightforward and trustworthy to ride, compete, take off the property, and he works well in a group or on his own.
Teddy is generally very quiet but not completely unflappable to ride. He can occasionally have a spook at something like a rabbit running out of the bushes, as do most horses. He is good with dogs and copes with the noise and nonsense of children within his vicinity.
Teddy is ridden in a snaffle in all phases.
Current workload/ fitness: Teddy is in work 4 to 5 days a week and is competing. He does require 4 days of work a week, to be reliable.
Handling and general behaviour: Teddy LOVES people, being handled and having a routine! He is safe and easy to manage even by tiny handlers - easy to catch and handle - lead, rug, tack up, wash, shoe, clip (by only one person in the cross ties), float/ truck etc.
Feeding and management: Teddy loves his food and is an extremely good doer. He is kept on grass only or grass hay which helps keep him calm and fit.
Medical history: Teddy was found to have mild navicular changes on xrays in early 2025. He has had the joint injected and is completely sound in wedge shoes. This is not uncommon in performance horses, especially over 10 years old.
Rider Suitability: The rider and home we are looking for is ideally:
someone who is over 18 years old
has independent hands and seat
is tactful and calm, if the horse gets lazy or is horse shy in a busy warmup
either
Show or dressage home for a capable rider
Eventing or showjumping home with an experienced rider
Reason for sale: Teddy is a fabulous and talented gelding with so much to offer. His current owners have experienced so much success and joy from him. Unfortunately, Teddy doesn’t have the natural engine to progress up the star levels.
