Introduction:

If you are looking for the sort of proven schoolmaster who has genuinely been there, done it and helped riders learn along the way, Coolidowns Law Man is a very special find. Fondly known as Buddy, he is a highly educated Australian Stock Horse with an extensive junior and amateur résumé across eventing, showjumping, dressage, Pony Club and Interschools.

Buddy combines long-term results, real-world exposure, genuine rideability and exceptional manners — the sort of combination that is increasingly hard to find. He is a premium, confidence-giving all-rounder for riders wanting a safe, educated and versatile partner with true ring experience and a kind, reliable way of going.

Education, skills and experience:

Buddy has evented up to EVA95 with wins and placings through the grades and has showjumped to 110cm. He has also produced Novice dressage tests and has amassed a substantial list of Pony Club and Interschools titles. He brings the education of a seasoned competition horse, with the practical exposure of a horse who has also had a real life outside the arena.

Away from competition, Buddy has broad life experience including mustering cattle, beach and river swimming, bareback riding, busy roads, farm machinery and dogs. This adds genuine real-world reliability to his ring education and makes him a particularly valuable schoolmaster type. These days, Buddy is happiest competing around the lower heights, around 80cm, and will school higher at home.

General demeanour under saddle: 

Under saddle, Buddy is willing, responsive and soft in the bridle, happily working in collection and stepping up or down to suit his rider. He adapts to the rider’s competence and is non-reactive and unflappable, with a reputation for being safe for child riders and novices under instruction.

Buddy is the kind of horse who gives his rider confidence without feeling dull or limited. He has the education, quality and experience to teach, while still offering enough ability and rideability for a capable junior or amateur to enjoy and learn from.

Current workload / fitness:

Buddy is in regular work five or more times per week and is currently competing. He does not require constant riding to remain reliable and is noted as safe to hop on after a spell.

Handling:

On the ground, Buddy is unflappable and easy to manage. He is simple to catch, lead, tie, clip and wash; stands quietly to travel; self-loads and unloads calmly; and is reliable for the farrier and vet. He is shod and straightforward.

Feeding and management:  

Buddy lives on grass and is given a small hard feed when worked as a treat. He can be kept in a herd or paddocked on his own, making him simple to manage in a variety of situations.

Medical history:

Buddy has a small scar on his off-hind hoof from a fence incident as a yearling, with no ongoing issues reported. His current leaser gives Pentosan as a preventative when competing weekly. He is vaccinated for Tetanus and Strangles. Past x-rays and vet checks are available, and buyers are welcome to undertake their own vet check.

Buddy suits novice riders through to confident juniors and amateur adults wanting a dependable, well-educated and competitive partner for Pony Club, Adult Riding Club, showjumping and eventing around 80cm, and dressage.

Reason for sale:

Buddy’s owner has moved out of home, his current lease is ending due to the rider purchasing their own horse, his owner’s sister no longer rides, and the family knows that Buddy has so much to offer his next rider.
