Introduction: Shan is a part bred Connemara by Green Hills Trooper Thomas. She is a Connemara through and through - tough, loyal and personality plus - she would live inside with her family, if she could!
Education, skills and experience: Shan was bred by Annette Condie at Kahean Connemara Pony Stud. She has spent her life treking, visiting the beach, competing at local ag shows and EA competitions. Throughout her career, she has had the best of education, coaching and care.
Shan has competed up to 95 showjumping and trained to 105. She is a typical Connie in that she can jump to the moon!. Shan has also had a very successful career in the show ring, competed to Novice level Dressage and evented to EVA80. She has always been ridden by both adults and children. Shan has even been awarded successive State Championships for showing, dressage and eventing in the same year!
General demeanor under saddle: Shan is not a yahoo, sporting pony, she is very well educated, willing and responsive. Shan is light in the bridle and understands collection. At shows it is ‘game on’ and she is forward and sharp to ride.
Shan is generally very quiet and easy to ride. She is patient and tolerant, happily standing quietly for hours waiting for the sheep to move or for her round at a show. If Shan snorts at something, she is reassured by a pat on the neck.
Shan doesn’t have any vices or quirks. She is familiar with indoor arenas, agricultural shows, motorbikes, trains, trucks, tractors, fireworks and the nonsense of farm and family life.
Current workload/ fitness: Shan is not currently in work. Her owner/ breeder in now in her 70s and requires a hip replacement, hence the sale of all five connemaras. In saying that, her owner would happily hop on her without any prior notice.
Behaviour and handling: Shan is excellent to catch, handle, wash, groom and load, travel and unload. She is fabulous for the farrier and vet.
Feeding and management: Shan is fed hay only unless in full work.
Medical history: Shan does not have any medical issues or prior injuries. She is a tough, sound connemara with excellent constitution and quality hooves. Shan has always been barefoot on a regular trimming cycle. She is up to date with dental and vaccinations.
Rider Suitability: Shan is suitable for a novice on the flat. She needs a capable and confident rider for jumping. Shan is educated and competitive. She deserves a rider who is relaxed and has an understanding of contact and an independent seat.
Shan, like all Connemaras, has a loving personality and is very loyal to her owner. They do take time to bond with their rider but once they do, the bond is for life. Connemaras are willing and responsive but they do require time to process things and do not enjoy a human with a heavy hand or argumentative streak. Connemara’s can be stubborn when they want to be. Owning a connemara is extremely rewarding and once you have one, you will forever be part of their world wide fan club!
Reason for sale: Shan’s owner is absolutely devastated to put her on the market but she has many years left teaching her next rider and she loves having a job to do. Everyone who knows her, adores her and her owners have had a number of people ask to buy her over the years! This is a very sad day for Shan’s family.
