Introduction: Kalina is an absolute dream to ride, handle and compete. Kalina was bred by Hunter Lodge before being produced to 130. She has excelled and progressed beautifully! Kalina is careful and quick - everything you want in a showjumper!
With Kalina’s owner focusing on school, this sale presents a fabulous opportunity for someone to purchase a well bred, well educated mare who is quiet enough for a capable junior or amateur rider.
Bloodlines: Kalina is undoubtedly exceptionally well bred, being sired by Kannan out of a mare called Oh I Say who jumped to 140 with Cade Hunter.
Kannan, who passed away in 2020, is the only KWPN stallion who has led the WBFSH Show Jumping Sire Ranking. This international Grand Prix stallion made a name for himself in the sport in France and worldwide in breeding.
Kannan had a very successful career at the highest levels of showjumping. With Michel Hecart, he won the French title in 2005 and took part in the European Championships in San Patrignano that same year. In addition, Kannan won the Grand Prix in Deauville, finished 2nd in the Grand Prix of Gijon, La Courneuve and Vichy and was part of the French team that won the Nations Cup competitions in Lisbon and La Baule.
Kannan’s son Nino des Buissonnets became Olympic champion in 2012 with Steve Guerdat. Other Grand Prix winners by Kannan include Albführen’s Paille (also Guerdat), Quabris de l’Isle (Pedro Venis), Molly Malone (Bertram Allen), Quorida de Treho (Romain Duguet) and Diva II (Ben Maher).
Conformation: Kalina is a wonderful example of the modern performance horse - compact, athletic and refined. Her paces display elasticity, power and activity.
Education, riding and experience: Kalina is well established on the flat and she has beautiful movement. She would be competent to compete at novice level dressage and produce a lovely dressage test. She has automatic flying changes and laterals. She is suitable to be a straight dressage horse or a combined training super star. This also makes her rideable, adjustable and competitive on course!
Kalina has competed and placed to 120 with 130 jump offs with experienced junior riders. Kalina is competitive, quick and rideable around the course. She is the quintessential ‘careful’ horse that will do anything to keep the rails up but doesn’t like to be missed.
For this reason, we don’t think Kalina will suit a typical junior who wants to ‘progress up the levels and jump the bigger tracks’ quickly. She needs a rider with a ‘good eye’ or someone who is prepared to progress patiently and develop their ability to see a stride.
Kalina is dream to take out, no silliness in the warmup and stands and waits her turn. She is forward and powerful - like any horse that is competitive at this level.
Kalina is always safe with absolutely no dirt. She loves a trail ride or ride around the farm. Kalina is currently in work and competing.
Handling: Kalina is patient and well mannered on the ground to rug, wash, shoe etc. She is great for the farrier and to clip. Kalina is very easy to load, travel and unload - in either a float or truck. She loves cuddles and affection.
Behaviour: Kalina has traveled all over the country. She is happy in big city and Royal Show environments. She travels well - loads and unloads without fuss and eats and drinks well when away from home.
Kalina is sensible and reliable and to ride and handle. She does not have any vices under-saddle or on the ground.
Kalina is relaxed with a confident and relaxed rider. She can get tense and looky with a tense and inexperienced rider.
Feeding and management: Kalina is fed a simple diet - hay - and when in work, a small am and pm feed. She is currently paddocked full time. Kalina can get fresh is overfed but is safe regardless of feed. Kalina is happy to be stabled at competitions and prefers being paddocked on her own but must have a companion in sight.
Medical history: Kalina does not have any medical issues. She has xrays available.
Rider Suitability: Kalina would suit a competitive junior or adult rider who is looking for a straightforward and competitive horse to show jump to 120-130 and/ or compete dressage or combined training.
Kalina is not, however, a junior’s first serious showjumper/ performance horse. She does need a rider with a decent eye, who is comfortable riding a powerful, forward horse.
Reason for sale: Kalina is very sadly for sale due to her owner’s school commitments. Kalina is sound, fit and ready to compete.
