Introduction: Odie is a talented performance horse who is ready to find his next partner. He is very competitive as an OTT and also in open company. Odie is the ultimate safe and established dressage horse and he is equally at home eventing and showjumping!
Education, skills and experience:
Odie’s owner has brought him on, slowly and correctly, over the last 3 years. He is currently competing in EVA95 eventing and 105 showjumping. Odie is ready to step up a level to, 1* and 110 SJ, and has all the skills to do this successfully.
Dressage
Odie is well established in dressage with three even paces, consistently producing calm and accurate tests. He has a comprehensive dressage education to novice level, training elementary. Odie willingly collects, is balanced, light and soft to ride. He has established shoulder in, walk to canter, counter canters, travers and half pass.
In 2024, Odie had limited outings due to his riders (non-horse related) surgery. Despite this and a two month spell, he was ridden for only two weeks before successfully competed at Equimillion and was 6th in the Novice Dressage.
In eventing dressage, Odie is always a stand out, consistently scoring under 35 penalties (usually sits in the mid twenties) and up to 70%. Odie has always placed Top 10 in his dressage.
Showjumping
Odie is responsive and adjustable, competitive against the clock. He is trustworthy around the course and doesn’t stop. Odie has successfully competed up to 110cm. In showjumping he is careful and scopey.
Cross Country
In cross country, Odie is bold and honest. He is ready to go 1* with the right rider and he is training, at this height, with ease.
Odie absolutely loves jumping, and is a ‘point and shoot’ cross country horse. He is very clever and quick with his feet, will jump nearly anything off any angle and any stride. Odie can always be trusted to bring his rider home safely.
Odie has competed consistently at EVA80 level and has now completed three EVA95 events. He is extremely bold and calm on course. Odie has never stopped at a jump throughout his training and competing. He is an easy going performer. However, he does still get tense in the warm-up for showjumping and cross country and walking, rather than standing still, calms him.
General demeanor under saddle:
Odie is a wonderful example of the modern performance horse being compact and athletic. His paces display elasticity and activity suitable to progress up the levels.
Odie is a willing and responsive gelding who is honest and aims to please. He is generally very quiet but is not completely unflappable to ride. Odie may, occasionally, look at something and move slowly away from it. In a busy warm up, he can get tense if forced to stand still but relaxes when allowed to walk. Odie can be lazy at times and can kick out when asked for forward - this is not a buck or a pigroot.
Odie is easy to take off the property, and works well in a group or on his own. He requires no extensive warm ups. Odie is ridden on the flat in a loose ring snaffle. He is ridden in a ‘universal’ happy tongue dutch gag for cross country and also for showjumping above 95cm but can be safely jumped in a snaffle.
Odie is good with dogs, motorbikes, farm life and loves trail riding and being up in the mountains. He is very social and makes friends wherever he goes, making him a great horse to camp with at competitions.
Current workload/ fitness: Odie is in work 5 days a week and is competing.
Handling and general behaviour: Odie LOVES people and would sit in your lap on the couch, if you let him come inside the house! Odie is ‘non horsey friend’ safe and easy to manage - straight forward to catch and handle - lead, rug, float, tack up, wash, shoe etc.
Odie has been seen to windsuck when stabled. He does not do this in the paddock and even when stabled, this is controlled easily with a collar and a hay bag.
Feeding and management: Odie loves his food and is a good doer. His behaviour can change, when fed grain or ‘heating’ feeds, so he is not fed this.
Medical history: Odie does have an old nerve injury from racing and needs a patient farrier to trim his back feet. He is only shod in front for this reason. He is fed a join supplement as a preventative.
Rider Suitability: Capable and confident - Odie will be perfect for an experienced teen or young adult who has experience with thoroughbreds. He is looking for a rider who is kind and confident. Odie has the trainability, ability & temperament to go up the grades in any discipline.
Reason for sale: Odie is an absolute delight! Sadly, his owner’s 3* horse has sustained an injury and Odie needs to be sold to pay vet bills.
