Introduction: Embrook Stables Charlie is a 13-year-old Warmblood gelding (Charlemagne Ego Z x Belcam Ala) standing 16.2hh and EA registered, the sort of grey that walks into the ring with presence and purpose. He has been produced with professional guidance and shows it in the way he goes—scopey, careful and educated.
Education, skills and experience: Showjumping is his speciality. Charlie was competed by Clem Smith and the team at Yandoo prior to being purchased by PHS He has competed successfully to 1.35m with a professional rider, and to 1.25m with a capable junior. His record includes placings at National level, the Australian Showjumping Titles and was 5th and 8th overall in his Championship SJ classes at Interschool State in 2025. He is an incredibly careful showjumper.
On the flat he feels every inch the educated warmblood: he collects willingly, offers established lateral work and automatic flying changes, and is light in the bridle, happily ridden in a snaffle (currently a Trust Innosense full cheek, port mouth).
General demeanour under saddle: Charlie is described as a direct reflection of his rider - confident and relaxed with a composed, accurate pilot, or tense if ridden by someone nervous or unbalanced. If he feels worried and pressure builds - such as being repeatedly ‘missed’ during a jump round or going somewhere ‘scarey’ - he may refuse to go forward and may jack up. The best way to describe him is ‘talented and a really nice bloke, but can be a bit of an anxious pleaser’...
Current workload / fitness: He does not require daily riding to remain sensible. He is currently in work five days each week with a professional rider in preparation for sale.
Handling: On the ground Charlie is sensible, easy to catch, wash, groom, saddle, shoe and vet. He is a reliable loader and a quiet traveller. Charlie is used to farm life, tractors, trains and livestock. He is not bothered by dogs. He is not worried by fireworks and the chaos of Ag Shows.
Feeding and management: Charlie is fed ad lib hay - due to lack of grass - speedibeet and chaff. He is given supplements for preventative purposes.
Medical history: Sound and in work, he has thin soles managed successfully with a six-week farrier cycle, 3D pads and putty. Recent X‑rays are available, with angles improved under the current shoeing plan. He is vaccinated for tetanus and strangles, and up to date with dental care.
Rider Suitability: Charlie is NOT a junior’s schoolmaster. He is a well-educated, careful jumper who thrives with regular riding by an experienced rider or a very capable and confident rider under regular professional guidance - someone with feel, a steady eye to a fence and the composure to give him the confidence to do his job.
Reason for sale: This is a very sad sale for us. Charlie’s rider has four other horses in work and is studying law. She does not have the time to ride a fifth and Charlie is the least straight forward. Charlie thrives in a professional style environment - he loves being stabled at night and jumping on good surfaces. We feel that there is a home out there that can provide Charlie with the lifestyle and rider that can bring out his very best.
