Introduction: Astro is an absolute dream to ride, handle and compete. He is careful and quick - everything you want in a showjumper! On the flat Astro is so reliable that he would suit any rider and every rider will fall in love with him! This sale presents a fabulous opportunity for someone to purchase a well bred, well educated gelding who will suit a range of riders.
Bloodlines: Astro is undoubtedly exceptionally well bred, being sired by Finch Farm Cairo (Cassini II ( Capitol I / Caletto II / Mahmud )) out of Sabra Cadabra.
Conformation: Astro is a wonderful example of the modern performance horse - compact, athletic and refined. His paces display elasticity, power and activity.
Education, riding and experience: Astro would be competent to compete at novice level dressage and produce a lovely dressage test. He has automatic flying changes and laterals established. This also makes him rideable, adjustable and competitive on course!
Astro has competed and placed to 115 with experienced riders. Astro is competitive, quick and rideable around the course. He is the quintessential ‘careful’ horse that will do anything to keep the rails up but doesn’t like to be missed in a competition environment, OVER 80cm, and may stop in that scenario.
For this reason, we don’t think Astro will suit a typical junior who wants to ‘progress up the levels and jump the bigger tracks’ quickly. He needs a rider with a ‘good eye’ or someone who is prepared to progress patiently and develop their ability to see a stride.
Astro is a dream to take out, show, attend pony club, trail ride and ride around the farm. He is always safe with absolutely no dirt. Astro is currently in light work.
Handling: Astro is patient and well mannered on the ground to rug, wash, shoe etc. He is great for the farrier and to clip. Astro is very easy to load, travel and unload - in either a float or truck. He loves cuddles and affection.
Behaviour: Astro is happy in big city and Royal Show environments. He travels well - loads and unloads without fuss and eats and drinks well when away from home. Astro is a wonderful horse to have at competitions with younger or nervous horses as he is a calming influence.
Astro is sensible and reliable to ride and handle. He does not have any vices under-saddle or on the ground. Astro may turn his head to look at something loud like side show alley but he is not spooky.
Feeding and management: Astro is fed a simple diet - hay - and when in work, a small am and pm feed. He is currently paddocked full time. Astro is happy to be stabled at competitions and is happy in a herd environment or on his own with a horse in sight.
Medical history: Astro does not have any medical issues. He has xrays and vet check, from 2023, available to view by serious potential purchasers.
Rider Suitability: Astro would suit a competitive junior or adult rider with a ‘good eye’ who is looking for a straightforward and competitive horse to show jump to 115. He would also suit a novice or even a beginner under instruction for dressage or low level show jumping/ combined training up to 80cm.
Astro is not, however, a junior’s first serious showjumper/ performance horse.
Reason for sale: Astro is very sadly for sale due to the purchase of a very brave, showjumping schoolmaster. Astro is sound, fit and ready to compete.
