Introduction: Kiri is a part bred Connemara by Glen Cree Victoree out of Kohekohe Colleen. She was born and raised in the hills of New Zealand and is a Connemara through and through - tough, loyal and personality plus - she would live inside with her family, if she could!
Education, skills and experience: Kiri was bred by Windward Riding - Horse treking and Connemara Pony Stud - and spent her early years treking in the rugged hills and competing at local ag shows. She was then sold to a family in NZ, in 2016, who bought her on through the pony jumping ranks. In 2020, Kiri was exported to Australia where she taught two juniors, before being sold to her current home in 2023. Throughout her career, Kiri has had the best of education, coaching and care; competing successfully to National level.
Kiri has competed up to 105 showjumping, hunted and evented. She is currently competing 90cm. She has always been ridden by kids. Kiri is a typical Connie in that she can jump to the moon but requires a non-nonsense confident and capable rider for jumping. Kiri can feel strong and forward in a jump off and - if ‘missed’ and not supported over the bigger jumps - can randomly stop. This may rattle a nervous or inexperienced rider. Kiri produces a lovely preliminary dressage test.
Kiri is jumped in a Trust Pelham, not due to any issues, but due to her connemara ancestry/ genetics. It is to keep her light in the bridle and soft through the neck.
General demeanor under saddle: Kiri is not a yahoo, sporting pony. She is not suitable for beginners or novice riders. Kiri is well educated and likes a kind and capable rider. At shows it is ‘game on’ and she is forward and sharp to ride.
Kiri is generally very quiet and easy to ride. She is patient and tolerant, happily standing quietly for hours waiting for the sheep to move or for her round at a show. If she snorts at something, she is reassured by a pat on the neck. If her rider is relaxed, Kiri is very relaxed and reliable. If her rider is tense and jumpy, Kiri may be looky, tense and a bit ‘behind the leg’ especially when in season.
Kiri doesn’t have any vices or quirks. She is familiar with agricultural shows, motorbikes, trains, trucks, tractors, fireworks and the nonsense of farm and family life.
Current workload/ fitness: Kiri is in work 4 plus times a week - she is more competitive when ridden regularly.
Behaviour and handling: Kiri is excellent to catch, handle, wash, groom and load, travel and unload. She is fabulous for the farrier. She does like her space when tied at the truck and may pull back if she feels threatened. Kiri is not marey but is a little more sensitive to rider nerves, when in season.
Feeding and management: Kiri is fed hay only which keeps her level headed.
Medical history: Kiri does not have any medical issues. She is on 4cyte as a preventative.
Rider Suitability: Kiri needs a capable and confident rider for jumping. She is educated and competitive. Kiri deserves a rider who is relaxed and has an understanding of contact and an independent seat. She will not be sold to a beginner, novice or nervous rider home.
Reason for sale: Kiri’s owners are absolutely devastated to put her on the market but her legs keep growing and she deserves to be loved by another smaller teen or adult rider. Everyone who knows her, adores her and her owners have had a number of people ask to buy her over the years! This is a very sad day for Kiri’s family.
